A survey in 2001 revealed that over the years the house has been damaged by insect attack, damp penetration, timber decay as well as alterations that have damaged some of the main timbers.

It appears that the west end of the house has subsided over the ages. This is probably due to the deterioration of the base plate and the corner upright timber. Further physical investigation beneath the patio on the east side is required to establish whether these need replacing.

New drainage to remove storm water from the roofing has been undertaken. Lack of drainage at this side of the house may have contributed to the decay of the corner upright posts and plate.

The ultimate objective is for the house to outlive the present owners.
